Milan Day 8

The last day, sad face.



On the last day we went back to Navigli where we went on the Food Tour on the first day - Colonne di San Lorenzo.



At Navigli Grand Canal 



Really cleverly constructed cocktails at Mag Cafe. They used lots of botanical in them.






Lots of bike locks on one the bridges on the canal. 

On the bus back to Bergamo airport. We were delayed getting to Milano Centrale Railway Station where the bus departed from because of some card payment issues. Then we bought a ticket from an outside bar for the bus but contrary to the what the lady said, it only worked for one bus which was only going in 30mins. So we bought more tickets for another bus which they said was going "now", which in Italy means at least 10 mins.


We got there in good time to Bergamo airport and it is lovely. Not too big with a range of different shops and a slide.

Mortadella, pistachio and mozzarella pizza for a late lunch.


To finish, more gelato from Venchi. I had tiramisu, caramel and rosemary, and creme brulee. The caramel and rosemary was by far the best.


Over Bergamo.


Coming into Manchester.


We waited ages for our luggage.


Then we ran to the train station at Manchester Airport to catch the train, otherwise the next train was an hour later (or so we thought, in fact it was only 30mins). The travelators weren't working again and we just made it in time.

Harry wad still in hospital, so we caught the train nice and early to Manchester airport. Identical cars at Manchester Airport Average fry up at Milano Trattoria in Manchester Airport  The Alps Super king bed at Hotel Canova, we were on the top with a  balcony which was nice Start of the food tour. Milan Day 3

Funky lights and sounds for the metro turnstiles Duomo - the cathedral of Milan We climbed to the top of the roof terraces at Duomo Some beautiful flying buttresses Workmen fixing parts of the cathedral Inside Duomo Chiesa Santa Maria Presso San Satiro. The unique part is the painted choir which gives the false appearance of depth. Shell sculpture The choir section from the side - now it doesn't look so deep. The way the lighting works the shadow almost makes another cross. Pinacoteca Ambrosiana Art Gallery. A cartoon from around the 15th century. This dog had to be removed by the painter due to complaints by the patron; more recently, the gallery had it restored to its original condition.  Jesus, the real king of England. Joseph looking very pleased with himself. Rafael's sketch of many well known philosophers. He used this as the basis for his painting in the Vatican. Milan Day 2

  Buffet breakfast at Hotel Canova (lots of sweet pastries too). Huge selection! A walk in the Brera district. An interesting doorway. The building which contains Pinacoteca di Brera Art Gallery. Helen's favourite Ugly babies This massive painting of Alexandria in Egypt is interesting, as the artist added lots of Italian details, including architecture. Swith's favourite. Brera streets Chiesa Carmine Something to do with deaths of workers? These very flimsy looking Fiats were everywhere, and looked like plastic kids toys. They have such a weak engine that they count in the scooter category and therefore don't have to have a licence or follow the same rules as cars. Sforzesco Castle. There was an annoying music event on, which made it very busy and very loud. The mermaids bridge Statue of Napoleone III We loved this brand of drinks - nice flavours and no artificial sweeteners!
